The city beside being a zone with modern infrastructure, Boca del Rio has his traditional side; on him there converge three of the big roots that agree the mexican population: the aborigen, the African and the Spanish woman, which gives a full mosaic of folklor and cultural wealth.
One of the typical dances that also is widely practised in Boca del Rio; it is the Danzón.
The danzón as such, as other musical expressions, has his origin in the African etnias, it came to Mexico in 1879 and did his I arrive to Veracruz coming for Alvarado, Tlacotalpan, Boca del Rio and the port of Veracruz.

In Boca del Rio there is practised still the folklore dance, inside which the "Son jarocho" is one of the most representative, the disciplines of the dance are very rigid, between that they are, " Sones of bunch ", exclusive for women, " Son of Pairs " and " Son of couples " of an alone pair who is replaced with other one during the development of the Son, and some sones as " the bakers " who belongs to a pair, where there is replaced the man or to the woman of agreement with what indicate the musicians who well can ask the man to make the woman alone, or to request the woman who leaves only the man. Then each one they have to look for his dance partner or his companion, in order that it continues the dance in pair.

Inside the seven geographical regions in which the State of Veracruz is divided, Boca del Rio belongs to the Plains of the Lee ("Llanuras del sotavento), which it means " Where they flog the winds ", in this region the typical "Son Jarocho" is one of the principal manifestations of the holiday veracruzana, whose origin is a mixture of Spanish airs influenced by African rythims. It is a musical genre that originally was executed by revelry and in some places with flute, and that with to advance of the time, joined the violin and the harp.
